Langkawi - Oriental Village

"You will pass here on your way up to the skybridge, the staff are all very helpful and always smiling and willing to help, don't rush to the skybridge and take your time through this small quaint village!"

Langkawi

Oriental Village is best known as the home of the Langkawi Cable Car and Sky Bridge. It is a themed open-air complex with a huge lake in the centre and an art gallery, animal exhibits, clothes, souvenir and handicraft stores spread out around it plus a few local and international restaurants.

Oriental Village is located in Pantai Kok towards Langkawi’s western side (past the airport at Padang Matsirat) the Oriental Village is usually busy with visitors. The village is close to the Berjaya Beach Resort.
Most tours of the island include trips to the complex, especially since this is where the ticket booth for the Cable Car and Sky Bridge is. Queues are a common sight for most of the attractions, especially in the mid morning and early afternoon.

The Oriental Village may be synonymous with "Langkawi Cable Car," but the Village truly has more to offer visitors than just cable car rides. In fact, the Village offers more than 50 activity providers; food & beverage outlets; souvenir & retail stores; galleries; a 30-room boutique hotel and spas, making it the largest outdoor lifestyle mall in the northern region.

ACTIVITIES
The primary attraction of the Oriental Village is Langkawi Cable Car with it's Sky Bridge on top. However, aside for this exciting ride into Mount Machincang, the Oriental Village also offers elephant rides, ATV trails, motor-cross rides and SEGWAY tours in and around the Oriental Village.

Take a ride with Langkawi Cable Car that rises more than 709 meters up into the Mt. Machincang for the most thrilling ride and unforgettable experience on your Langkawi holiday.
Once at the top of Mount Machincang, the view of the surrounding areas and rock formations–touted as "the Birthplace of the Region" are both spectacular and stunning.
The Sky Bridge is built on top of the Mat Chinchang mountain. It's accessible with the cable car from the Top Station. The bridge is suspended from a 82m high single pylon and hangs at about 100m above ground. It swings out over the landscape to give visitors a unique spatial experience, and to bring them into otherwise unattainable locations, above virgin jungle with spectacular views. Notably, in contrast to a straight bridge, where the end is always monotonously in sight, a curved bridge offers spectacularly changing perspective that reinvent themselves, as one proceeds along it.
The adventure begins on a glass-bottomed gondola which soars above lush rainforest. Disembark at the top station and hop on the SkyGlide (an inclined lift) which transports you to the bridge entrance. While strolling along the Sky Bridge on a sunny day it really feels as though you are floating over mountain peaks and the views are truly mesmerizing.

Langkawi Elephant Adventures offers visitors an opportunity to ride elephants Malaysian-style. The resident elephant of Langkawi also featured on the set of Anna & the King, the Hollywood-ade movie featuring Jodie Foster and Chow Yuen Fatt.

Lasah is a magnificent elephant, who also sports a pair of tusks, that waits on guests patiently there.

There are also two additional elephants to take you for a ride. Not only is Lasah popular amongst tourists at the Oriental Village, Lasah has also featured in a number of films, travel shows and commercials.
He is most certainly a star at the Oriental Village. As the facility only provides elephant rides and is not a zoo, per se, entry is only granted to those who have booked an elephant trail or purchased an elephant feed basket.

Ever wanted to speed around on a Segway? Well here is your chance as there is a store that rents them out – it is the perfect way to explore Oriental Village without having to elbow your way through the crowd. SEGWAY Transporters are one of the most futuristic equipments you can own, which feature high-tech accelerometers to control speed, acceleration and turning directions. Visitors may choose guided tours around the Village or into the foothills of Machincang.

Also check out the trained eagles of Falconry Encounters at the Animal Adventures exhibit. Besides that, visit the Tiger! Tiger! Gallery & Exhibit, where you can see the beautiful Zanah, a Malayan Tigress with the personality of an overgrown kitten – watch as she plays around in her playground and pool.

There is an animal farm inside the Oriental Village. With a backdrop of the mountains and having being setup in lush greenery, the farm looks very pretty. There are several common and small animals inside like deer, rabbits etc which could of interest to the kids.
