Beris Lake Vineyard

"Beris Lake Vineyard is a small vineyard around the area. There is another sister plantation in Kampung Sungai Senang, about 12km from here. The vineyard in Kampung Senang has bigger coverage area than Beris Lake Vineyard."

The Vineyard

Beris Lake Vineyard is the first grapes vineyard in northern part of Kedah. Its location is in Sik, Kedah. Its place is in rural area and far from Sik town. The road distance from Sik town to the vineyard is about 12km. If you come from North-South Expressway, take the road to Gurun by entering the Gurun Toll Plaza. Then, you should follow signboard to Sik and Beris Lake. Just follow Beris Lake signboard as your benchmark. The vineyard is just near the Beris Lake.
This place was not on my itinerary but I was glad I found it since I've never been to one before. Honestly, I have never heard of this vineyard before. I've always associated vineyards with winemaking (as opposed to a grape farm; turned out they're the same) so I was curious to find out more about this place.
Surely enough, there was no winemaking there, so Muslims are welcome to explore and learn about grape planting. The vineyard was a beauty. And the grapes were delicious; fresh, big, crunchy and juicy. They cultivate: Black Opal, Black Grape, White Malaga and Loose Pelite give the consumer a variety of unique tastes and flavours.
I highly recommend going there. I might even consider driving all the way up there from KL just to buy their grapes. Yeah they were that good.

They have been operational since 2007. Entrance fee is RM6 for adults and RM3 for children under 12. Besides keychains, magnets, t-shirts and mugs, they also sell cordials, jams and even soaps and lotions that are made from their very own grapes. And if you visit the cafe, they sell grape karipap and popiah.

I thought they would taste weird but they were fine. You could taste a hint of sweetness from the grapes; apart from that, they tasted like any other karipap and popiah. The juice tasted good though. Especially on a hot afternoon. They've also just opened a strawberry farm, although it's still in its trial phase so they're not selling any yet. I wonder how they'd taste like, hopefully as sweet as their grapes.

xx
