"We visited the market with friends. They sold everything there: fruit, vegetables, dried anchovies, dried shrimps, dried salted fish, mouth-watering fish crackers etc ...
We were quite amazed as they also sell kitchenware / utensils, bakeware and anything else you can find in this market. We even wanted to spend a few extra hours shopping. I wish I could come back to Tawau Market again."
The Tawau Pasar Tanjung was built in 1999. From the outside it looks like a 3-storey building, but if you look closely you will see that there are 6 floors. With 6,000 stalls, it is one of the largest covered markets in Malaysia. Here you can discover local goods and a piece of culture at the same time. The Tanjung Market is located in the center of Tawau, opposite the fish market and next to the Tawau Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex on Jalan Dunlop. The market starts at 5:00 in the morning and usually ends at 6:00 pm.
Opposite the fish market you can see the market's three elevators, and they only stop on the 2nd, 4th and 6th floors.
On the first floor (ground floor) you will find: household items, plastic bags, fish, dried anchovies and shrimp crackers and other Indonesian snacks. You will also find keropok amplang (amplang crackers) here, which is made from Spanish mackerel mixed with tapioca flour and special herbs. This cracker has no strange or unpleasant odor. Everyone loves it.
On the second floor, they sell flowers, fruits, vegetables, pastries, pork, chicken, beef, coffee powder, eggs, coconut milk, and shredded coconut.
You can buy dried fish on the third floor.
Ready-to-wear clothes and toys are available for the enthusiast on the fourth floor.
A food court is located on the 5th floor. Food court enthusiasts can have their favorite meal here, while enjoying the view of Tawau. Some of the dishes and drinks are quite popular here, and some may sell out if you don't try to get them by a certain time.
The Urban Transformation Center (UTC) is located on the 6th floor. The UTC is a one-stop location for citizens to receive service from government departments. The departments include the Immigration Office, Road Transportation, National Registration Service, Health Department, and Water Department. Citizens of Tawau can go to UTC to pay their bills, show their ID or passport.
The dental clinic is located on the ground floor. For applicants, the usual opening hours are 8 AM to 7 PM, with a break from 11:30 AM to 2 PM. This is the only traditional market with a police branch.
Just behind this wet market is the local fish market, the only one of its kind in Tawau.
By booking through this site, this independent, non-commercial site will continue to exist.
