THE FERRY
Sibu - Kuching - Kapit

"There is only one express boat from Kuching to Sibu daily at 8:30 am and arrives in Sibu at 1:30 pm or thereabouts. If you want to take the last Sibu Express boat to Kapit, you have to hurry to Kapit wharf which is about 200m away towards the Chinese pagoda visible when you get off the Kuching Express boat. The last boat to Kapit leaves at 2pm if I remember correctly and the journey, if the boat is non-stop and the river flow is favorable, will take a little over 2 1/2 hours to reach Kapit."

The Terminal

Faster than the bus , a speedboat connects Sibu and Kuching. The express boats dock twice, namely in the towns of Sarikei and Tanjung Manis. From Sibu to Kuching the boat sails every day at 11:30 AM. It is the only boat that leaves. A ticket can be bought at the ferry terminal. You must be present at least 30 minutes before departure to board. Departing from Kuching, the boat is anchored at 8:30 am to leave for Sibu. Again, the ticket can be purchased at the pier at least 30 minutes before the ship's departure. The journey to Sibu takes approximately 5 hours (note: the boat from Kuching usually leaves at 8.25am - 5 minutes early).

In the Sibu terminal you can buy a ticket not only to sail to Kuching, but also to sail upstream on the river to Song and Kapit, among others. These boats depart several times a day.
The Sibu Express Boat Terminal has two floors. The passengers immediately boarding are separated from those awaiting the arrival of a boat. There are separate areas for arrival and departure.
The terminal handles an average of about 2,000 passengers per day, but on special days, such as the celebration of Gawai Dayak, it can go up to about 8,000 per day.
On special occasions, such as a pandemic like Covid19, passengers must fill in their details and present their tickets at the SRB (Sarawak Rivers Board) desk before entering the departure lounge. This because of a follow-up examination in case of infection. These strict security measures are then implemented to ensure the safety of passengers.

xx

There are freight access roads on both sides of the terminal for boats to deliver cargo.
