. It is a mistake that is often made and this is the tool. The sleepy fishing village of Merang is located about 25
kilometres north of Kuala Terengganu. You should not expect a modern jetty (riser), but everything is ok. Upon arrival you can already see the parking areas in front of the car. You can leave something in the trunk of the car if you only go two / three days. Although the parking lots are guarded, it still happens that car is broken open, if you leave something visible in the car. Park your car under a "shelter" against the sun. When you come back, you do not step directly into a very hot car.
If you are "on the way" by Malaysia (like us) and have not discussed anything on the island, call from the coast if there is still place in the resort. Fortunately, this was the case with us. But you better book something in advance. Especially on Redang. Often the ticket for the ferry is included in the package tour.
The boats usually depart in the morning. New tourists are departing to the islands; others go back to the mainland. So try to arrive early in Merang. You can also bring you on a privat boat to the islands, but those costs are high. We were lucky that there were other tourists, who wanted to go to Redang and that is why the price of the trip was shared.
The price of a single trip to Redang is between 10 and 15 Euro. You can easily book in advance by clicking the banner of the bus tickets at the bottom of this page. They also take care of the boat tickets and you then have a fixed price and certainty that you will be transferred on time. They can also provide bus tickets with seat reservation.

Sleepy Merang
The beauty of Merang is already a great tourist spot in itself. The coconut trees and the beautiful deep blue sea are a feast for the eyes. The small huts camouflaged between the coconut palms are yet another panoramic view. A feast for the eyes for photographers. Below the hill in the village is the Merang Jetty, where there is a small harbor with boats. There are also good eateries, apart from the counters.
So once you arrive in the village of Marang, there are plenty of signboards, which you can easily bring to the Merang jetty and you can be there in just 5 minutes. In addition, there are several large parking spaces to park your car.
At the jetty in Merang, Suria Link is one of the popular boat services. The office is right next to the jetty. You can also book here. This boat service has ferry services to various islands in the area, such as Pulau Lang Tengah, Redang and even Pulau Kapas. The boat trip to Redang takes about 1 hour. The ferry service from Kuala Terengganu (Shahbandar) takes a little longer: 1.5 hours.
